We are very excited to be carrying out the second Dérive app workshop, this time in Johannesburg, South Africa. This, in collaboration with the Maboneng Precinct situated on the eastern edge of Africa’s richest and 4th largest city.
Over the last decade Johannesburg has seen explosive re-development of areas that had succumbed to urban decay following the end of apartheid. The city is dense, fraught with problems and opportunities, decaying and rejuvenating at levels that leave some feeling anxious. Yet. within its central confines can be found the core of Gauteng transportation nodes, spanning various taxi, bus and train interchanges which means each day Johannesburg is host to millions of commuters coming from across the province to seek out their fortunes.
